The scorched tree gives way beneath me, but I don’t fall.
Duality has me on the tip of her tail. Her fearsome eyes are calm and sympathetic. One of her mouths is emitting a low growl, of thought more than aggression. I try to look at her, but my eyes are heavy.
She sighs, her lips curling into a kind smile.

“I accept your answer. You worry me a little, but maybe that should not surprise me, considering your kind.”

My body relaxes, the pain fading. I’d feel proud of myself, but right now, I want to close my eyes and pretend none of this happened.

“I wish you luck on your journey, and may Entropy treat you well.”

Duality tilts me off her tail, letting me go.

The nebulae disappear upwards, fading into a hole in the golden sky. My limb body sinks through cream-coloured clouds, being covered in soft peachy powder. I can barely feel myself falling. The warm air and colours make it harder to stay conscious.

I want to ask myself, ‘would closing my eyes let me wake up, back with my parents? Or back in the apple orchard, slumped under a tree?’ But I have a feeling I know what the answer is.

‘And you would be correct.’

I let myself drift into unconsciousness.
Freaking bring it on, Aura. Bring it on.
